February 2021
President's Message

Many of us are just beginning or are already knee deep in one of the busiest times of the year, therefore the Omaha Chapter of AFWA is taking a break from programming for March – we hope to see you again in April for our social event (after April 15th!). Be on the lookout for more information as that time gets closer.
While we are taking a break from programming, the Chapter is still busy working on ways to continue providing value to our members and growing our chapter. Here are just a few of the things going on:
- Local and national scholarship applications are available now! The deadline for the Omaha chapter’s applications is March 31, 2021 and recipients will be announced in May 2021.
- Our nominating committee is accepting nominations for board members for the 2021-2022 year. If you are interested in leadership opportunities within the chapter, please email me at [email protected].
- Public relations dinner planning – we are in the preliminary planning stages for our public relations dinner and CPE event. We remain hopeful that this event will be in person in June 2021.
Huge shout out to our speakers and thank you to everyone that attended our virtual events in January and February. During our networking time in February, we discussed what is the one thing we are looking forward to doing most once we can and what is the best thing that has come from the pandemic. It’s easy to focus on the negatives, so we wanted to put a positive spin on a time that has been difficult for us all. The consensus is that a lot of people are looking forward to traveling and just spending time with people without worry. My personal “can’t wait” is to attend live concerts in person. The best thing that has come from the pandemic seems to be the flexibility that has come with being forced to change the way we work. I love having a virtual client meeting and seeing their kids or hearing their dog bark in the background – it reminds me that we all have lives going on outside of work and they aren’t mutually exclusive.
See you in the spring!
"Women are working more, men are understanding their value as caregivers, women are primary breadwinners—I mean, we could go on and on and on. Things are different. So we can’t keep operating like everything is the same, and that’s what many of us have done. And I think it’s up to us to change the conversation."
- Michelle Obama, Former First Lady
